Those are big promises, but you can't have one without the others, so here's our thinking. Like it or not, we are all intimately connected within our world. Choices we make affect us all, even the choice of products you use for cleaning. If you care about your choices, so do we. And when we care, we all benefit ..
Why Use If You Care Certified Compostable Bags?
About 80 million tons of waste (U.S. EPA figures) which goes to landfill annually is material which under the right conditions, can be turned into compost, including food scraps, yard waste and non-recyclable paper. In a landfill environment, this organic material releases methane-a greenhouse gas-contributing to global warming. Diverting food scraps and yard waste from landfill to compost facilities-either municipal or commercial-contributes significantly to preserving our planet and natural resources.
If You Care Certified Compostable Tall Kitchen Bags meet the requirements of ASTM D6400 and will compost readily and safely in municipal or commercial composting facilities. These do not exist in all areas. Check to see if such facilities are available in your community.
If You Care Certified Compostable Tall Kitchen Bags are compostable in backyard or home compost facilities.
If You Care Certified Compostable Tall Kitchen Bags are compostable in commercial composting facilities and meet the standards of EN 13432. Appropriate facilities may not exist in your area.
Product Lifecycle
Choosing our materials
- Blended with certified fully compostable polymer
- Starch from "starch potatoes" grown for starch, not for food
- No plasticizers. Plasticizers migrate, which deteriorates mechanical properties of bags. We don't use them.
- Box from 100% recycled board processed chlorine-free (PCF)
Completing the cycle
- Bags are certified compostable and can be home composted
- Bags can be composted in municipal or commercial compost facilities where available
- Cardboard box should be recycled
Supporting our world
- Certified compostable
- No plasticizers and no polyethylene
- Starch from potatoes grown only for starch-no diversion from food supply
- Potato starch uses less water than corn starch-no irrigation needed 40% less land is required to produce same quantity of starch from potatoes as from corn
Caring for your home
- Fits all standard tall kitchen 13-gallon pails
- Use for compostable waste only
- Bags along with food scraps can be composted
